Oh anon, Azula/Ty Lee is one of my top Avatar OTPs but WOW is it ever a fucked up pairing!!

Azula is just so tragic.

I mean at first Azula seems like a total badass, the incredibly powerful uber-competent favoured child, but then the show makes her so much more complex than that. Shows us that her father built her into a dangerous and untrusting sociopath but also that she is broken and lonely and filled with fury

and I don’t think Ty Lee is blind to that, I think she fears Azula as much as she admires her, after all Azula is just as manipulative of and thoughtlessly cruel to Ty Lee as she is to everyone else, but even so she LOVES Azula, loves simply and wholeheartedly and without reservation. And Ty Lee is literally the only person we ever see Azula showing kindness to! Azula can’t love Ty Lee, but she does need her.

Ozai taught her to conflate love with fear and so the betrayal of everyone around her drives her mad because you should have feared me more really means you should have loved me more.

I don’t know if there was ever any hope for Azula

but if there was it was Ty Lee.
